Jerry “The King” Lawler, a WWE Hall of Famer and one of wrestling’s most beloved voices, has stepped away from several fan events over the coming weeks.
Reports confirm that Lawler will no longer appear at conventions and signing sessions, including the Horror Hound Weekend in Ohio. The move comes as Lawler chooses to focus on his health after recent concerns arose.
Lawler’s career spans more than five decades. He made his pro wrestling debut in the early 1970s and became a mainstay in Memphis wrestling. His work in WWE began in 1992, where he served as both in-ring talent and lead commentator. He earned induction into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2007. Outside the ring, Lawler took part in numerous autograph sessions and fan conventions, delighting crowds with his wit and stories from behind the curtain.
In a statement, PWInsider noted that Lawler ‘has canceled these appearances to focus on some health issues.’ While details on the exact nature of Lawler’s health concerns have not been made public, at 75 years old, it’s not surprising that health issues may be catching up with him. He suffered a near-fatal cardiac arrest in 2012 and several strokes following that, with the most recent one occurring in 2023.

Jerry Lawler Prioritizes Health Over Public Appearances
Many wrestling legends have had to balance public duties with personal health. Lawler’s choice to sit out conventions echoes similar steps taken by peers who faced serious health scares. Shawn Michaels took a hiatus from professional wrestling in the 2000s due to his severe back injury. Mick Foley underwent numerous surgeries following his extreme matches, including a hip and knee replacement.
Conventions are a big part of a wrestler’s post-ring life, allowing them to stay in touch with fans and attend signings and photo sessions. Stepping back means a short-term loss of those opportunities, yet preserving long-term health is far more important. At 75 years old, Lawler has earned the right to take time off. His legacy is intact, and his impact on sports entertainment remains unmatched.
We, at ITR Wrestling, wish Jerry Lawler a speedy recovery. Get well soon, King.
