While Andre The Giant was well-known for his incredible feats inside the ring, he was just as notorious for some of the things he was able to do outside it, especially when it came to drinking.
According to one of his greatest opponents, Hulk Hogan, the first member of the WWE Hall of Fame once drank 100 beers in 45 minutes.
Andre The Giant’s co-star in The Princess Bride, Cary Ewles, once told Vanity Fair the star’s favourite cocktail, which wasn’t for the faint of heart. ‘The American’ apparently consisted of “40 ounces of various liquors in a pitcher” and Andre would drink several in one sitting.
One man could almost match Andre The Giant’s drinking
In a new interview with Sportskeeda Wrestling, Former WWE Spanish Announcer Hugo Savinovich has opened up about his friend Andre’s drinking habits, saying he would down a case of beer before moving onto wine.
“Andre the Giant was very close with one of my brothers, Frenchy Martin, or Pierre Martel in Puerto Rico. He could go a trip from San Juan to Ponce, drink a whole case of the local beer, and then go from the local beer into wine. One of the nicest guys.”
Despite the outlandish antics of Andre The Giant, Savinovich went on to claim there was someone who could almost keep up with Andre’s drinking, the legendary Ric Flair.
“With Flair, he could do almost the same drinking as Andre the Giant, but he would still do one hour with one of the talents in that country, so that company could have the street credit of having their champion face Flair, the world champion. [Local wrestlers] did not beat Flair but went 60 minutes with Flair. You say, ‘How the heck can he do it one hour after he just stopped drinking Kamikazes and knocked all of us out with the alcohol?'”
