WWE Raw’s 30th anniversary celebration is set to be a star-studded event with many legends in attendance. However, despite being contacted about an appearance initially, one WWE Hall of Famer isn’t set to be part of the show.
Speaking on the most recent episode of Busted Open, Bully Ray revealed that he had a phone call with the sports entertainment giant about appearing on Raw is XXX, and said that if he and longtime tag team partner D-Von were able to work with a younger team, he was interested.
“I did get a phone call about it. I did say that if me and D-Von were going to do something that would be able to help another tag team, like maybe go out there and do the ‘Wassup’ spot and ‘Get the tables’ with another tag team, and kind of let them get the rub or the shine off of playing one of the hits.”
Bully Ray made it clear that he wasn’t interested in appearing backstage during a party-type segment with a short cameo; instead, he was far more interested in helping some of the current talent on the show, and believed it would be fun to do something with Chad Gable and Otis of Alpha Academy.
However, the WWE Hall of Famer says he didn’t get a call back from the company regarding involvement in a segment of that type.
“I would have been more than happy to do that, never got a callback and I’m here talking to you guys.”
Fellow Hall of Famer and current AEW star Mark Henry agrees that it’s important for legends to help younger talent rise to a new level of stardom, saying:
“Why would the term ‘giving them a rub’ exist if it wasn’t prevalent? Like that is what’s gotta be done tonight.”
Bully Ray’s Tag Team Partner D-Von Dudley Recently Announced His WWE Departure
It’s unlikely that Bully Ray’s tag team D-Von will be part of the Raw XXX festivities as he recently announced his departure from WWE after working as both a main roster producer and later a coach in NXT.
In a series of tweets, the tag team legend wrote that his departure was the best plan for everyone involved and sent thanks to Stephanie McMahon, Vince McMahon, and Triple H.
