Sean Waltman has named his team with Kane as the best odd couple in wrestling history.
The pair first joined up in 1999 and went on to win the Tag Team Titles twice. During the run, Waltman helped humanise Kane, and the star began speaking for the first time and even got a girlfriend, Tori.
Looking back on their first title win in a video on the WWE Vault YouTube channel, Waltman said he regards the Big Red Machine as his favourite tag team partner.
“To this day, I’ll tell you of all my partners, as far as tag team partners go, he’s my favourite tag team partner. It was, to me, the best ‘Odd Couple’ tag team in wrestling ever.
“That was a really successful run for me, teaming with Kane. I just loved teaming with him.”
The duo won the titles in August 1999 from JBL and Ron Simmons, then teaming as The Acolytes. Waltman says he loved working with the team because of their hard-hitting style.
“I loved working with them. They hit hard, and so did I. I really liked being in there with guys that brought it. As a small guy that, when I first started, people laughed at, I had something to prove.
“When you get hit hard like that, first of all, it gets me more into it. Then, you get the reactions, and I’m addicted to the reaction from the crowd.”
After the win, X-Pac told the audience Kane had two words for them, and he spoke for the first time on WWE TV without assistance, growling the DX catchphrase, “Suck it!” to the delight of the crowd.
“The place popped! It’s kind of mindless entertainment, I guess. But, it was classic. To me, the greatest ‘Odd Couple’ tag team ever.”
Kane Made Old Couple Fear For Their Lives
Kane has recalled scaring an old couple when he accidentally walked into their hotel room. The star had went to the hotel straight from the arena he had just wrestled in and even still had his makeup on.
After checking in, he said he, “walked up to the room, ripped open the door, threw my bag in, and then noticed an old couple sitting on the bed.” The couple understandably screamed at the sight while The Big Red Machine stared at them in disbelief at the situation.
