Ric Flair isn’t the only WWE Hall of Famer approached about having a final match at Starrcast.
On July 31st as part of Starrcast V, Ric Flair competed in what he says to be his final match at the age of 73. The bout saw Flair team with his son-in-law Andrade El Idolo against the team of Jay Lethal and Jeff Jarrett, and though there was concern for the badly-bloodied Flair following the match, the WWE Hall of Famer was thankfully said to be in “great” condition afterward.
However, Flair was not the only WWE Hall of Famer approached to have a final match as part of a Starrcast event. Speaking on his Hall of Fame podcast, Booker T revealed that he was also approached to have a final match as part of an upcoming Starrcast in Texas, but that he declined the offer.
“I was approached, actually, to have a final match next year at Starrcast. Harlem Heat’s final match. Here in Texas. I said, ‘Hell nah.’ We ain’t doing none of that. I just had a match a couple of weeks ago and my knee was killing me. I can only imagine what it’s going to feel like next year.”
Continuing, Booker T made it clear that he’s still working and that he never intends to advertise a final match as he doesn’t want to build to him doing much in the ring.
“Y’all can forget about seeing me do one last match. I’m still working, I’m still having matches, you’re just never going to see me have a last match. You’re never going to see me do much in the ring. I’m never going to build a match up like I’m doing a whole lot. One tag in, one tag out, that’s it. I’m done. Where’s my check? That’s way I learned from one of my teachers back in the day, Hacksaw Butch Reed. I’m coming in one time, and I’m coming out asking for my check. That’s the way you do it.”
While Starrcast VI has not been announced, Booker T’s comments lead to speculation that the next Starrcast event could take place during Royal Rumble weekend, which is rumored to be taking place in San Antonio, TX though this has not been confirmed.
