During his full-time WWE career, John Cena became the most polarising figure on the entire roster, and it seems that continues with some even to this day.
In recent years there has been something of a softening in the stance of many fans towards Cena as he now becomes the veteran giving a nostalgia hit, rather than the man with an iron grip on the main event scene. However, that goodwill hasn’t extended to everyone.
Appearing on the Road Trip After Hours podcast, Teddy Long was asked about a potential match between Cena and LA Knight. Although the match might be a long shot, speculation kicked into gear after Cena shared a photo of Knight on Instagram.
Long explained that he doesn’t know whether Cena is open to wrestling again, admitting he’s “not a John Cena fan.”
“Well, I don’t know, man. You know what I mean? I’ll just be straight up with you. I’m not a John Cena fan, okay, so I don’t really know. LA Knight, I like this kid, man, and I think it’s a great opportunity for him to work with someone like John Cena. But I mean, you know, I don’t know if Cena is serious about coming back to wrestling. I just don’t get none of it and I guess it’s really not my business anyway, so whatever happens, you know, it shouldn’t concern me anyway, but if that’s what happens, you know, we’ll just wait and see.”
Teddy Long Critical Of John Cena’s WrestleMania Performance
This isn’t the first time Long has been critical of John Cena in recent months, with the former SmackDown General Manager claiming the 16-time World Champion could have turned in a better performance against Austin Theory at WrestleMania 39. Long stated that he didn’t feel Cena “did business,” and could have done more to elevate Theory.
