New Year's Evil Thumb

As per Fightful, WWE filed for the trademark ‘NXT: New Year’s Evil’ on December 6.

New Year’s Evil will serve as the first NXT television special of 2021 on January 6 and was announced during NXT TakeOver: WarGames to go head-to-head with AEW’s special on the same date.

The description for the trademark reads:

IC 041. US 100 101 107. G & S: Entertainment services, namely, a show about professional wrestling; entertainment services, namely, the production and exhibition of professional wrestling events rendered live and through broadcast media including television and distributed via various platforms across multiple forms of transmission media; providing wrestling news and information through broadcast media including television and distributed via various platforms across multiple forms of transmission media; providing information in the fields of sports and entertainment through broadcast media including television and distributed via various platforms across multiple forms of transmission media; providing a website in the field of sports entertainment information

It has already been announced that during the special, NXT Champion Finn Balor will make the first defence of his gold since NXT TakeOver 31 in October against either Kyle O’Reilly or ‘The Bruiserweight’ Pete Dunne.

The two challengers will clash in singles competition once more in the coming weeks to decide whether the Undisputed ERA member receives his rematch from TakeOver 31, or whether the longest reigning WWE United Kingdom Champion in history receives his first crack at the black and gold prize.

It is also believed that Karrion Kross will battle Damian Priest in a grudge match, after the returning powerhouse attacked ‘The Archer of Infamy’ upon his return on December 9.
