At SummerSlam in 2022, Bayley returned to WWE to confront Raw Women’s Champion Bianca Belair immediately following Belair’s victory over Becky Lynch.
The star had been absent for more than a year after suffering a knee injury, and she didn’t come alone during her return, bringing in Dakota Kai and IYO SKY as her allies. Kai had been released from the company the previous April, and IYO was not expected to return, but the pair would be among the first stars to return after Triple H took over in the wake of Vince McMahon’s retirement.
Now known as Damage CTRL, the group has become a mainstay on Monday Night Raw, and Kai and SKY went on to become two-time WWE Women’s Champions.
However, ahead of WrestleMania, the pair lost the titles to Becky Lynch and a returning Lita, and at WrestleMania, all three members of Damage CTRL lost at the hands of Lynch, Lita, and Trish Stratus. Bayley was cut from the Monday Night Raw after WrestleMania despite being in the building, and Kai and SKY took part in a tag team number one contender’s match that was won by Raquel Rodriguez and Liv Morgan.
Now, a new report from Dave Meltzer writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter indicates that Damage CTRL might be no more as the company appears to be breaking up the faction.
“In addition, Bayley was told not to go out with Kai & Sky. While not official, there was a belief Damage Ctrl was being broken up and a tweet from Bayley indicated that. Kai & Sky basically looked like enhancement talent in the presentation of the tag match.”
