WWE is looking to partner with another overseas promotion.
Shortly before Christmas, All Japan Pro Wrestling made the announcement that a Superstar from NXT would be making the trip overseas to challenge Katsuhiko Nakajima for the Triple Crown Championship at AJPW New Year Giant Series on January 3rd. It was later announced that Charlie Dempsey would be the NXT representative in an announcement made by William Regal, which was Regal’s first onscreen appearance since rejoining the company in late 2022.
As reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, this is not the only major international promotion that they are interested in building a relationship with. While nothing is finalised, the promotion confirmed an interest in partnering with Stardom.
In regards to the current relationship between both brands, it has been previously reported that there was massive interest in signing current Artist of Stardom Champion Giulia. The Newsletter also posts the following update on the Giulia:
Giulia right now is seen as likely to be coming here [WWE] in 2024. Her contract expires with Stardom in March. She may not be coming in right away, but as of right now she’s leaning toward coming here in 2024
Will The New Japanese Wrestling Agreement Affect WWE’s Interest?
Despite the top wrestling company in the world expressing an interest in working with the international promotion, the landscape of Japanese wrestling as a whole has changed in the past few weeks. The top 9 wrestling promotions in Japan, including Stardom and NJPW, recently announced a collaboration project which will see the companies share information so that they can adapt to any sudden changes in the future.
