The 2020 WWE Draft begins tonight on Friday Night SmackDown and it appears that WWE have purposely excluded several names, both major and minor, from the Draft Pool.
Though names as big as WWE Champion Drew McIntyre and WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns will be included and Dabba-Kato and Arturo Ruas will be called up to the main roster, some of WWE’s biggest stars will remain free agents with them being on the injured list or part-timers.
Becky Lynch, John Cena, Goldberg and Edge are the four main names missing from the 2020 Draft Pool and though it’s unknown when or even if Lynch will return once she’s given birth, we do know that the other three will return to the squared circle at some point.
In a recent interview on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon, John Cena told the host that he wasn’t done with the industry just yet. Though it’s unclear when Cena will return to the ring, the last time we saw him was as a Friday Night SmackDown star battling Bray Wyatt at WrestleMania 36.
Bill Goldberg is a different story. Earlier this year, the former WCW World Heavyweight Champion announced that he was still contracted to WWE for two matches per-year, which he has already fulfilled in 2020 at Super ShowDown and WrestleMania 36. Not expected to return until 2021, Goldberg was a SmackDown name before his departure.
Edge was a Monday Night Raw performer before he tore his pectoral muscle in his excellent bout with Randy Orton at Backlash. Though he’s been missing from WWE television since May, ‘The Rated-R Superstar’ is heavily rumoured to return at the 2021 Royal Rumble and win the 30-man elimination spectacle to set-up a feud ending collision with Randy Orton for either the WWE Championship or Universal Championship at WrestleMania 37. Expect Edge to land on whichever brand Randy Orton resides on come January.
Samoa Joe began commentating on Monday Night Raw after suffering an injury all the way back in February of this year. However, in a recent interview, Joe stated that he was far from done as an active competitor.
Jimmy Uso is currently sidelined with a knee injury but is expected to return to the ring in the New Year where it is rumoured he will enter a stable with Roman Reigns and brother Jey. The last time we saw Jimmy on WWE television, he threw the towel in for his brother at WWE Clash of Champions. Expect Jimmy Uso to land on whichever brand Jey and Reigns reside on in 2021.
Sonya Deville took time away from WWE at SummerSlam this year after losing a Loser Leaves WWE Match to Mandy Rose. The real reason for her absence is to allow the star time to recover from her recent real life ordeal. Once she feels ready, Deville will return to WWE. She was a SmackDown name before her departure.
Other names not entered in the 2020 Draft Pool were: The Big Show, Jinder Mahal, The Singh Bros., Bo Dallas, Ivar and Mojo Rawley who are either currently injured or in the case of Big Show, are only an active performer on a rare basis.
Inside the Ropes will have all the coverage of Friday Night SmackDown and the 2020 WWE Draft as it happens.
