An executive in WWE has given their thoughts on a potential joint project with AEW.
While there was a time when the worldwide leader was very reluctant to work with other promotions, 2024 has proven that the company is very much open for business with notable examples being the ongoing partnership with TNA, AJ Styles competing in pro wrestling NOAH and many contracted stars fighting in Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport.
AEW is also open to collaborating with other promotions including their own ongoing partnership with New Japan and American Champion MJF set to wrestle in RevPro imminently as he defends the title against Michael Oku. Although both promotions have their own respective partnerships and talent exchanges, Tony Khan recently piqued the interest of fans when he stated in an interview that he would be open to the idea of a Supershow in partnership with WWE.
While the announcement would have no doubt excited some fans who want to see dream matches such as Seth Rollins vs. Will Ospreay and Drew McIntyre vs. Kazuchika Okada, it doesn’t appear that will be happening anytime soon.
Executive Vice President of Talent Relations & head of Communications Chris Legentil recently appeared on the Sports Media podcast with Richard Deitsch and was asked if there was any interest in engaging in talks:
“No interest. I just want to make clear. There is definitely a variety of excellent talent that don’t currently reside in WWE. There is no shot there that is being fired. It’s just to say, the answer to your question is no conversation has been had in relation to that.”
WWE Hall Of Famer Makes Surprise Return
While a joint show between the top companies in the world looks to be highly unlikely in the near future, history has shown that anything can happy in the wild world of professional wrestling. This was seen shortly before the July 29th Raw when WWE Hall of Famer Jesse Ventura made his return to the company.
H/t to Fightful.
