The WWE Universe is still reeling from Seth Rollins’ championship swerve at the 38th annual SummerSlam, and the heel antics that have gone down at the hands of Paul Heyman and The Vision ever since. While the RAW brand’s biggest storyline is playing out to strong interest, officials are dealing with an unfortunate real-life situation related to Rollins.
Triple H and his team pulled a major swerve at SummerSlam Saturday when Rollins cashed in his Money in the Bank contract to dethrone CM Punk of the World Heavyweight Championship, right after The Voice of The Voiceless had captured the gold from Gunther. The title change was not a total surprise because in the lead-up to SummerSlam, sources revealed talk of WWE potentially working everyone with Rollins’ injury from weeks before at SNME XL.
Following Night 1 of SummerSlam, word came from backstage at MetLife Stadium of a potential scenario where WWE could be on the receiving end of significant heat for working just about everyone, including those close to Rollins, with what was billed as a serious injury. Now it appears the rumors have come true.
Fallout from Rollins’ fake injury has continued backstage this week. PWInsider reported that much of the situation had left “a very unhealthy flavor in the mouths” of many behind-the-scenes workers in WWE. This also applies to several in-ring talents who are signed to the company. It remains to be seen if officials will address this internally.
