Less than two months after being renamed from Marcel Barthel, Ludwig Kaiser has already endured another change to his ring name.
The 8 April edition of SmackDown saw the official main roster call-up for Imperium’s Gunther and Marcel Barthel, with the latter receiving a name change of Ludwig Kaiser upon leaving NXT 2.0. However, it appears WWE has already applied further changes to his ring moniker.
A quick glimpse at WWE.com’s roster page sees Ludwig Kaiser now listed as ‘Ludvig Kaiser’. This is merely a slight change in spelling and pronunciation, as opposed to the major change the Hanover, Germany native faced when he first lost his Marcel Barthel moniker.
Signed by WWE in 2017, the 31-year-old has found success as part of the Imperium stable, WWE’s take on the iconic Ringkampf group. He’s a two-time NXT Tag Team Champion alongside his and Gunther’s former partner Fabian Aichner, who was left behind in NXT.
As Axel Dieter Jr., he was a major star in his home of Germany, where he primarily performed for westside Xtreme wrestling. There, he held the organisation’s Unified World Wrestling Championship and, alongside Da Mack, their World Tag Team Championships, as well as being the runner-up in the prestigious 16 Carat Gold tournament in 2015 and 2016.
While Ludwig Kaiser to Ludvig Kaiser isn’t a huge change, it marks the latest in a long line of WWE name changes throughout 2022. The likes of WALTER, Pete Dunne, Raquel Gonzalez, Kay Lee Ray, and Austin Theory have all endured changes to their in-ring monikers, becoming Gunther, Butch, Raquel Rodriguez, Alba Fyre, and Theory, respectively.
The now-former Ludwig Kaiser is yet to wrestle on WWE’s main roster since being called. He’s thus far served as a manager for Gunther, who’s remained undefeated across four televised matches.
