WWE Champion Credits Success To Triple H’s Guidance: “He Always Supported Me”

WWE Champion Credits Success To Triple H's Guidance:

A current champion in WWE admits that they may not have found the success they have within the company were it not for the Triple H era.

Following on from the Chief Content Officer being given full creative control in 2023 shortly after the Endeavor takeover of the company was complete, multiple stars such as Damian Priest, Jey Uso and LA Knight were all finally given their time to shine by winning singles championships and being featured in prominent matches.

One of the biggest success stories of the past 2 years has been Gunther, who made the Intercontinental Championship more important than it has been for decades, won the revamped King of the Ring tournament and is now the World Heavyweight Champion. Once again looking unbeatable, The Ring General has come a long way compared to his questionable booking in the previous era, most infamously the short loss at Survivor Series 2019 in the 3 brand elimination match.

While speaking with Alistair McGeorge of Metro, the World Champion looked back on his WWE rise and stated that he has always had the backing of Paul Levesque:

“He always supported me and saw something in me. In general, I think he is somebody that is very disciplined when it comes to his long term goals with certain people and sticking to them. I don’t know if I would be here without ever being more or less connected with Triple H in that sense. At the end of the day, Triple H right now, he’s our matchmaker, he’s the head of creative. And what that role kinda is in our sport is like, he’s the head coach to what a football team would be.”

Paul Levesque took over as Head of Creative from Vince McMahon, who resigned from his position after sexual assault allegations were published in a lawsuit by former employee Janel Grant. When asked about his relationship with McMahon, Gunther admitted that he did not spend a lot of time working under the former Chairman and their interactions were limited:

“The creative ideas from his side, obviously, was never my kind of thing. But that’s subjective. It’s a taste thing. I think the success can’t be denied. But I was just under him for maybe three and a half months, and in that time, I had half a conversation with him.”

Former Rival Praises Triple H

During his time as an active performer, the former World Champion also mentored rising stars such as Randy Orton and Batista while in the stable Evolution. During a recent interview, one of the WWE legends recalled the valuable advice they received from Triple H during their own career.
