A current champion in WWE has admitted that there is one aspect of their entrance music that is “very cringeworthy.”
Entrance themes are a major part of a wrestler’s presentation and play a major part in getting their character over as a face or heel. Although fans love to scream “Whoa” as part of Cody Rhodes’s entrance and Yeet with Jey Uso, one SmackDown star is not the biggest fan of their own introduction.
A major part of Chelsea Green’s presentation was the unique introduction given by former ring announcer Samantha Irvin. However, with Irvin no longer a part of the company and the company wanting to keep the unique announcement of Green’s name, the Women’s United States Champion recorded the introduction herself to be played before her Hot Mess song officially kicks in.
Speaking with Alistair McGeorge of Metroabout the presentation change, Green admitted that she does not like hearing the sound of her own voice:
“When they told me I had to re-record my entrance theme and I had to do the “Chelsea Green”, that’s something you will now be hearing on Friday nights, and that is very cringe worthy. Anyone who get gets the ick, just know I got the ick first while I was recording.”
“Every time in my entrance, I still am like, “Oh, I hate that”. It’s my voice, but that’s just me. I can’t watch myself. I can’t listen to myself. That is just totally a “me problem”. I should probably go to therapy for that,’ she quipped.
Later in the interview, Green noted that as fans love the way her name is announced, she may try and recruit a famous face to provide the voice over given that WWE has now partnered up with Netflix:
“[Fans] loved that little obnoxious entrance. Now, I’ve changed it to my voice. Who knows? Maybe it’ll be someone else. Maybe, now that we’re with Netflix, it’ll be someone fun and famous.”
WWE Champion Discusses Babyface And Heel Dynamics
Despite being presented as the heel, Green has become beloved by the fans thanks to her character work and became the clear favourite to be the first-ever Women’s United States Champion as soon as the tournament was announced. In a separate interview, Chelsea Green explained why it is hard to cheer for the “perfect” babyface in the modern era.
