At WWE Night of Champions, Trish Stratus brought an unfortunate 17-year streak to an end.
The event saw the Hall of Famer bring her rivalry with Becky Lynch to a head when the pair finally met in the ring after weeks of animosity stemming from Stratus feeling overlooked for her role in elevating the women’s division.
On the night, Stratus took control for most of the match, using all her experience to control the pace of the action. Lynch was still able to stay in the fight, but just as she built up the momentum to finish things, she was attacked by Zoey Stark who jumped from under the ring.
Stark hit her Z360 to leave Lynch bloodied before throwing her back in the ring. This enabled Stratus to hit the Stratusfaction and grab the win.
Trish Stratus’ victory brings her WWE streak to an end
The victory marked the first time Stratus had won in singles action for 17 years. Before this, her last one-on-one win saw her defeat Lita to capture the Women’s Championship for the seventh time at Unforgiven in 2006.
Following that win, the star relinquished the title and retired from full-time action. Since then, she has made sporadic appearances including two singles matches.
The first saw her defeated by Vickie Guerrero in a No Disqualification match on Raw in March 2011, while the second was a loss to Charlotte Flair at SummerSlam in 2019.
She has had more luck in tag action, most recently with her former allies Lynch and Lita at WrestleMania 39, where they defeated Damage CTRL.
