A WWE legend’s son said that professional wrestling was his career backup plan.
Several children of WWE legends followed in their parents’ footsteps and turned professional wrestlers. In the current roster alone, there’s Cody Rhodes, Dominik Mysterio, Randy Orton, Roman Reigns, The Usos, and Charlotte Flair, to name a few. Interestingly, another name that might join this list is Bill Goldberg’s son, Gage.
In an exclusive interview with Bill Apter for Sportskeeda Wrestling, Gage said that although football was his priority, especially at the moment, WWE was definitely his backup plan.
It’s there. It’s a backup plan for sure. Football’s a priority 100%, but it’s a backup plan. Football is my main plan, WWE is my backup plan 100%.” [H/T Sportskeeda Wrestling]
The 19-year-old is currently playing football for the University of Colorado, the Colorado Buffaloes, as a linebacker in his freshman year.
Gage Goldberg Believes His Father Might Get An Itch To Wrestle Again After WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event
Goldberg is set to have his retirement match next month at the upcoming Saturday Night’s Main Event in Atlanta, Georgia, against Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship. However, the linebacker noted that the WWE Hall of Famer might not call it a day yet.
In the same interview, Gage was asked if he thought Goldberg defeating Gunther could encourage him to continue wrestling. The 19-year-old noted that he was unsure, but had a feeling that whatever the outcome at SNME, the former WWE and WCW Champion could get the itch to wrestle again.
Yeah, I mean that one I couldn’t even tell you because he has, I wish I had his confidence 100% because he has like anything could happen to him, and it just would go right over his head, he’s still confident as ever and win or lose, he’s going to be, he’s going to get the feel, he’s going to get the itch again that he wants to stay in the ring.”
