Another couple of former WWE Superstars could soon be heading back to the company.
The Authors of Pain, Akam and Rezar, haven’t been involved in professional wrestling since their ill-fated Wrestling Entertainment Series venture in 2022. However, the door could now be open for a surprise WWE return.
Authors Pain Pain Could Be Heading Back To WWE
A new report from Fightful Select has stated that there have been “internal discussions” about bringing back the former Raw Tag Team Champions. The report also noted that there has been talk of their long-time manager Paul Ellering also returning. Ellering famously managed the Road Warriors and took on the same role for the Authors of Pain while they were in NXT.
Despite being split up on television the AOP remained close to Ellering and got his blessing to use the name Legion of Pain outside of WWE. There had been suggestions during their initial WWE run that Ellering didn’t want to work on the main roster due to the schedule, but he has since dismissed these claims.
Following a try-out in Dubai, Rezar, real name Gzim Selmani, signed with WWE in 2015. After initially working as a singles wrestler, the Dutch-born Superstar teamed with Sunny Dhinsa, who later became known as Akam.
The pair were given the name The Authors of Pain, and they began their climb through WWE’s ranks. Flanked by Ellering, the duo won the 2016 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic before winning the NXT Tag Team Titles.
The powerhouses made the move to the main roster in April 2018, winning the Raw Tag Team Championships that November. However, the Authors of Pain were released by WWE in September 2020, choosing to be with their families during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The news comes after it was reported that Chelsea Green has already re-signed with WWE and Matt Cardona filed for the trademark for Zack Ryder, the moniker he used in WWE.
