The drama between former WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Sasha Banks and Naomi, and WWE continues to evolve in front of everyone’s eyes.
It feels like yesterday that Sasha Banks and Naomi walked out of WWE. The pair had a heated discussion with those higher up in the company regarding their position as Women’s Tag Team Champions and ever since, there have been reports of Banks and Naomi possibly getting released.
Banks’ release has a bit more evidence behind it. ‘The Legit Boss’ recently agreed to appear at a Chicago fan convention under her real name, Mercedes Varnado. Meanwhile, Naomi has been posting cryptic messages on her social media, which reference her finally being free from the company. Despite all the evidence, WWE managed to keep any confirmation of them being gone close to the vest.
According to Mike Johnson from PWinsider, WWE issued a survey to members of their mailing list asking fans for their opinions regarding talents on the roster. Fans were given options to describe how they felt about specific talent, ranging from “one of my favourites” to “unfamiliar.” Interestingly, Sasha and Naomi were included.
Whether or not the company is trying to gauge fan opinion on both talents before publicly firing them remains to be seen. It’s reported that Banks has stated that she can’t wrestle anywhere until the early part of 2023, so the company might use whatever resources they have to see if the walkout hurt or helped Banks and Naomi’s reputation.
Other Superstars who famously walked out from WWE have seen their stock rise because of it. Perhaps the most famous example is CM Punk, who maintained his massive fanbase despite leaving the company in 2014 and arguably saw it increase after conducting shoot interviews exposing the company’s faults.
As for now, fans may have to wait a bit longer to hear any confirmation on the duo’s release, as well as what will happen to the Women’s Tag Team Championships.
