Corey Graves became the latest WWE name to seemingly reference CM Punk.
In recent weeks fans believe they’ve picked up on a few references to CM Punk on WWE television. Seth Rollins called himself the “best in the world” — a known CM Punk catchphrase, on October 2nd, and Michael Cole recently paralleled language used by Punk in a famous promo in Ring of Honor.
Corey Graves has now added to the speculation that Punk could be heading back to WWE with a reference of his own. While discussing the match between Seth Rollins and Shinsuke Nakamura at Fastlane, Graves used the following line:
“The greatest trick the devil ever played was making the world forget that he existed.”
A line to that effect was used by Punk while with Ring of Honor, and it featured in his rivalry with MJF in AEW.
For his part, Graves denied that the line had anything to do with Punk writing on social media “You guys should really see The Usual Suspects.” A slight variation of the line is featured in the famous closing sequence of the classic 1995 movie.
CM Punk has since been referenced again on Raw, this time by Shinsuke Nakamura.
Is CM Punk Coming Back To WWE?
The line from Graves came after a day of speculation about the star including reports he could be returning to WWE. There were reports that CM Punk and WWE were in talks, while he was described as a “safe bet” for Survivor Series.
This was followed by a further report which stated that Punk still has significant heat within WWE, but the company believes he wants to return.
