A new report suggests WWE made an offer to one of the top stars in NJPW.
There was some speculation that former NXT North American Champion and NJPW star Jonah (formerly Bronson Reed) would return to WWE. After his match against Kazuchika Okada at NJPW Declaration of Power, the two men showed each other respect by shaking hands.
Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer mentioned how it was Jonah’s first pin-fall loss in NJPW and speculated that the handshake at the end could signal that he was leaving the company.
Jonah Has Received Offers To Return
Following up on the speculation, the Wrestling Observer Newsletter provided an update regarding the Australian star’s future. The report notes WWE has reached out to him with an offer to return to the company.
“Another question involves Jonah. Jonah has had offers to come back to WWE. After he lost to Okada, the two shook hands, almost like this was the end of their rivalry. However, Jonah in his post-match interview said that they have to do a third match, said he was okay with the loss because Okada is the best wrestler in the world, noted that they were 1-1, and said on this night Okada was guided by the spirit of Inoki and that’s why he won on this night.”
Jonah signed with WWE in early 2019 and made his in-ring debut at an NXT live event in March. Under the name Bronson Reed, the highpoint of the Australian star’s black and gold run came in May 2021 when he captured the NXT North American Title.
The star was released by the company just three months later and has since appeared in New Japan and IMPACT Wrestling. His IMPACT debut saw him attack Josh Alexander at Turning Point, and his final match with the promotion was a losing effort against PCO in a Monster’s Ball match.
