A current WWE Superstar and a current AEW star have been pictured together at a recent promotional event.
On February 10th the NFL and GLAAD teamed together for their “Night of Pride with GLAAD and NFL” event in Los Angeles. The event saw a number of stars stepping onto the purple carpet to celebrate the big night.
Two stars from the world of wrestling were also in attendance to show their support for the LQBTQ community, Sonya Deville and Anthony Bowens. The pair were later pictured together on the purple carpet, with Deville sharing the snap on social media.
“Thank you @glaad and @nfl for an incredible event tonight in LA, inclusion is so important and brands like @wwe and the @nfl showing their support and representation matters so much. Go LA”
Sonya Deville who has been with WWE since 2015, became the first openly gay female wrestler in company history after coming out during her run on Tough Enough. Meanwhile, AEW star Bowens is one of the most famous male, openly gay wrestlers in the world.
As recently as December 2021, Bowens was subject to homophobic abuse during one of his matches on AEW Dynamite. After competing on an episode of Dynamite, footage began to circulate on social media of a fan shouting a homophobic slur at the star.
Bowens later responded, saying that he’ll keep fighting against such abuse until the day he dies.
“This is why I posted that photo the other day. Stuff like this unfortunately still exists. Not phased, I’ll just keep fighting against stuff like this til the day I die [rainbow emoji].”
The photo Anthony Bowens is referencing is one where he and his boyfriend can be seen kissing in front of some offensively misguided anti-gay protestors.
