WWE have replaced multiple expletive chants on the Netflix version of WrestleMania 40 with something much more family-friendly.
The 2024 show in Philadelphia is the latest to have profanity removed as fans have called out the blatant edit in audio, especially in the six-team ladder match on night one. As seen on the original broadcast, a “Holy sh*t” broke out multiple times in the match.
One instance took place when Grayson Waller was powerbombed onto a ladder, which was repeated when Tyler Bate was hit with an air raid crash off a ladder by Tommaso Ciampa. However, on the updated Netflix version, this has been replaced by a piped-in “This is awesome” chant. The change is notable as fans never chanted “This is awesome” during the match.
This is not the first time that a WWE broadcast on Netflix has been censored. As has been seen over the past few weeks on the European tour, fans have been bleeped during John Cena’s segments when a “F*ck you Cena” chant has broken out in the arena. Additionally, Sikoa’s accidental F-bomb on SmackDown has been edited out of the on-demand version.
Prior to the move to Netflix, many fans were hoping that the profanity-filled chants would be allowed to air uncensored given that the company was not on network TV and that the streaming service is no stranger to using foul language in their own content.
However, with multiple broadcasts hit with the censor button to keep the show as PG as possible, fans have voiced their displeasure on the move.
WWE Confirms WrestleMania Main Event
With less than 3 weeks to go until Mania 41 in Las Vegas, the company is continuing the build by announcing more matches for the show on Raw and SmackDown. As part of the latest update, WWE confirmed which match would main event night 1.
