Wrestling World Reacts To Stephanie McMahon’s Shock News

Stephanie McMahon

Following the news of Stephanie McMahon taking a leave of absence from WWE, many former and current WWE Superstars and personalities have shared messages of support.

Stephanie McMahon shocked the wrestling world on Thursday, 19 May, as she announced she was to take a leave of absence from WWE. The former WWE Women’s Champion confirmed she’ll be absent from her WWE duties for an undisclosed length while she spends time with her family.

Since the news was tweeted by Stephanie, there has been an outpouring of support from the wrestling community, showing their appreciation and gratitude towards WWE’s current Chief Brand Officer. Former multi-time WWE Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss expressed her love for Stephanie, as did WWE Hall of Famers Titus O’Neil and Sean ‘X-Pac’ Waltman:

Former WWE 24/7 Champion Dana Brooke thanked Stephanie McMahon for “being a role model for all women around the world”, while former WWE Superstars The Bollywood Boyz tweeted their thanks to McMahon for “always being so cool” to them, prior to their June 2021 WWE departure:

Stephanie McMahon has served in a variety of roles throughout her lifetime, with her role as Chief Brand Officer having begun in December 2013. She previously worked for WWE as the Director of Creative Television, Senior Vice President of Creative Writing, and Executive Vice President of Creative Development and Operations.

Her on-screen presence on WWE programming has often come at the behest of fans and critics alike. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter twice “awarded” situations involving her with the Most Disgusting Promotional Tactic award, while also claiming she was the Worst Non-Wrestling Personality and Worst On Interviews between 2001 and 2003.

Despite this, she has remained a semi-permanent fixture on WWE programming since her 1999 debut. While also serving in roles such as General Manager and Commissioner, Stephanie McMahon has wrestled a total of 24 matches throughout her life, the most recent of which saw her submit to Ronda Rousey in an acclaimed intergender tag team match at WrestleMania 34.

There’s currently no timetable for when, exactly, Stephanie McMahon will resume her day-to-day WWE duties. Wrestlenomics’ Brandon Thurston has since reported that Nick Khan, the infamous WWE President and Chief Revenue Officer, will take over from her in the meantime.
