Just a few days after his exit, R-Truth made his WWE return.
Almost a week ago, R-Truth, Carlito, and Sarah Rowe were let go from World Wrestling Entertainment after their contracts were not extended. However, soon after, on 7th June at Money in the Bank 2025, R-Truth, now known as Ron Killings, made his shocking return, costing John Cena his main-event match.
Later, on the June 9th episode of Raw, Killings introduced the world to his new gimmick, a no-nonsense and serious character. Truth recently launched a verbal outburst on Hall of Famer Bubba Ray Dudley, and he also continued his serious gimmick on the 13th June episode of SmackDown as well.
While his new run continues to build up, veteran wrestling promoter and former TNA President Scott D’Amore recalled the conversation he had with Killings following his exit. During his column for Uncrowned, D’Amore revealed:
“Which brings me to the big surprise at Money In The Bank — the return of Ron Killings just days after he announced he was not getting renewed by WWE after 17 years with the promotion.
I exchanged texts with Ronnie shortly before the show. No, he didn’t mention that he was going back to WWE — he’s a pro and he also knows that I hate spoilers. (Why would anyone want to know spoilers? Wrestling is at its best when there are surprises.)
Obviously, I wanted to check if there was a chance that he could be legally cleared to appear at Maple Leaf Pro’s next big pay-per-view on July 5, but mainly we had a great talk about the outpouring of love from not just fans, but also Ronnie’s peers, when news broke he was done with WWE.
I experienced something similar when I was let go from TNA in February 2024. Like I said to Ronnie, it is like attending your own funeral, and by that I mean you get to hear the things people usually only say when it’s too late.
I don’t know for a fact if Ronnie asked WWE to be known as “Ron Killings” — his real name — as part of this new deal, but it is very smart. Because it is his legal name, he can use it for future projects, television shows, other wrestling gigs, signings, whatever. “R-Truth” is WWE IP.
No two performers age the same and, even at 53, Ron has something left in the tank. He has a real top-tier run left in him — in fact, he’s got a few.
Let’s enjoy what he does next — because it almost didn’t happen.”
D’Amore and Killings have previously worked together at TNA Wrestling between 2003 to 2007.
Back in 2024, D’Amore relaunched Maple Leaf Wrestling as Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling.
Hall Of Famer Eric Bischoff Addresses R-Truth’s WWE Exit
Recently, during the latest edition of the 83 Weeks podcast with Eric Bischoff, the Hall of Famer discussed how the entire R-Truth contract scenario could have been a work, and not a real situation.
“People, what is a work? I love it when people use these terms, and not necessarily you Conrad, but in general, in the internet wrestling community, they throw this word around like they really understand what they’re talking about. And they don’t. And it’s evidenced by people saying it is definitely not a work.”
