A WWE Hal of Famer and all-round wrestling legend has claimed that John Cena is the single greatest WWE Superstar of all-time.
By it’s very nature professional wrestling is a subjective artform, therefore any debate over who is the greatest will always spark incredible debate. Even trying to pin down the greatest WWE Superstar of all-time is a pretty thankless task.
Since it’s creation WWE has been home to the likes of Hulk Hogan, The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Shawn Michaels, The Undertaker, Randy Savage, Bret Hart and thousands more. A number of which could be considered the very best ever.
Speaking in a new interview with The Bubba Army, WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle offered his opinion on who sits at the top of the tree. It could be argued that Angle also has a claim to the throne given his remarkable run alongside some of the best to ever do it during the early 2000’s. When asked to name his number one, Angle named Cena due to his incredible run of championship wins.
“[John] Cena, greatest WWE Superstar of all time. He’s the one with 16 world titles, all WWE world titles, no one else has done that.”
John Cena and Kurt Angle have a long history together, with the Olympic gold medallist serving as Cena’s first main roster opponent back in 2002. Over the years the pair clashed in the ring on numerous occasions, with Angle initially hoping his retirement match could have been against Mr Hustle, Loyalty and Respect.
John Cena hasn’t wrestled since appearing in a dark match at a Friday Night SmackDown taping at Madison Square Garden in September 2021. His most recent televised match came at SummerSlam that year where he was defeated by Roman Reigns.
