After much speculation, the main event for night one of WrestleMania 39 has been revealed.
This weekend will see WWE present ‘the most stupendous two-night event in sports entertainment history’ as WrestleMania 39 comes to Hollywood.
WrestleMania 39 Night 1 Main Event Confirmed
Debate has spread online over who should main event night one of the show, with multiple matches having laid stake to the honour including both Rhea Ripley vs. Charlotte Flair, and the WWE Tag Team Championship match between The Usos and the duo of Sami Zayn & Kevin Owens.
Dave Meltzer has now confirmed, via Twitter, that it will be the WWE Tag Team Championship match that will main event WrestleMania 39 night one with the Women’s Royal Rumble winner bumped from the main event for the second time in recent history.
“Usos headline tonight vs. Zayn & Owens for all the reasons we talked about last night.”
Fightful Select this afternoon also noted that in the weeks leading up to WrestleMania 39, WWE sources had stated that they had been ‘outright told’ that The Usos vs. Zayn & Owens would main event the show.
However, Fightful also noted that WWE has maintained that the decision would be made/finalised at the production meeting on the morning of the show.
Sami Zayn will make history at tonight’s show as he becomes the first Muslim WWE Superstar to main event WrestleMania.
Kevin Owens will also make history as he becomes the first WWE star to main event WrestleMania in back-to-back years in matches not involving the WWE World Championship.
Night 1 of WrestleMania 39 will also see Dominik Mysterio clash with father and new WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio in one of the show’s most anticipated matches.
A report from Fightful Select also noted that a ‘special entrance’ had been pitched for Dominik Mysterio at tonight’s events, however, no details are known at this time as to the nature of the entrance.
