What was the worst match of 2022?

While the individual answers to this question will vary from person to person, a collective opinion has been aggregated by readers of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

Worst Match Of The Year Was Impromptu WWE WrestleMania Match

While the other matches on the list were advertised and built to for multiple weeks ahead of time, the winner of the worst match of 2022 happened unannounced on night 2 of WrestleMania, which saw Vince McMahon defeat Pat McAfee.

Following Pat McAfee defeating Austin Theory in a singles match, the SmackDown commentator turned his attention to WWE Chairman Vince McMahon, who accompanied Theory to the ring for the match. McMahon would remove his jacket and shirt and step into the ring and make the match official.

McMahon laid out McAfee with multiple clotheslines, with Austin Theory providing interference on multiple occasions. The match would mercifully come to an end when McMahon would kick a football into the midsection of the former NFL punter, pinning McAfee to win the match.

Despite being victorious in his final WWE match to date, the celebrations for McMahon were short lived, as the boss came face to face with his oldest rival. The iconic glass shatter was heard around the stadium, brining out “Stone Cold” Steve Austin to come face-to-face with Vince McMahon once again, wiping the smug smile off the face of the winner.

Following a Stunner to Theory, Austin and McMahon would share a beer before McMahon was hit with what was arguably one of the worst Stunners in history. Austin would then share a beer with Pat McAfee, before delivering one more stunner to the WWE announcer.

The accolade for second worst match of the year went to Ric Flair’s last match, which saw Flair team with Andrade to defeat Jeff Jarrett and Jay Lethal. The full list is as follows:
