Wrestle Grand Slam To Proceed Despite State Of Emergency

New Japan Pro Wrestling’s return to the Tokyo Dome will go ahead despite the impending State of Emergency placed on Japan’s capital city.

Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga told reporters earlier this week that an SoE would run in Tokyo throughout the forthcoming Olympic Games, in a bid to combat the coronavirus pandemic.

The Prime Minister confirmed that the SoE would be in place from July 12th through to the 22nd of August, and that whilst the Olympics would go ahead, spectators in Tokyo would not be permitted.

However in an official statement, New Japan have confirmed that Wrestle Grand Slam will still go ahead on July 25th:

On July 25, ‘Godzilla vs Kong presents: Wrestle Grand Slam in Tokyo Dome’ will proceed as planned, with NJPW continuing its commitment to safe events as held across Japan with fans for the past year.

However, in light of the recent announcement of another state of emergency across Tokyo and the subsequent restrictions this enforces on live events, we regret to announce that ticket sales for Wrestle Grand Slam will end at midnight JST on July 11.

Wrestle Grand Slam will be headlined by the new IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Shingo Takagi making his first title defense against former champion Kota Ibushi.
