World Of Sport Reach Out To Nick Aldis And Mickie James Ahead Of Relaunch [Exclusive]

Nick Aldis, World of Sport

Inside The Ropes can exclusively reveal that the consortium behind World of Sport Wrestling are looking to relaunch the famous brand. Furthermore, those involved have already spoken with Nick Aldis and Mickie James.

Back in late 2016, World of Sport Wrestling returned to ITV for the first time since 1985. After a one-off New Year’s Eve special, the promotion returned in earnest for one season in 2018 which was followed by a short UK tour in 2019.

World Of Sport Discussing New Broadcast Model With Nick Aldis

However, sources close to World of Sport have revealed to Inside The Ropes that they are looking to relaunch the brand once more, with a number of different approaches on the table. One of these being an NWA-inspired broadcast model which would see the promotion run low-cost, free-to-air television shows from a studio, alongside live events.

This approach has been favoured by the NWA in recent years, particularly until the COVID-19 pandemic reshaped the wrestling landscape.

This seemingly led WOS to reach out to former NWA Worlds Champion Nick Aldis, to gauge his interest in being involved in the project. ITR can confirm that there has been communication between the two parties. It is understood that there is also interest in Aldis’ wife Mickie James being involved.

Nick Aldis recently announced that he would be leaving the NWA in January 2023, citing issues with the direction of the company. In response, NWA suspended Aldis, meaning he will not appear at any further tapings. It should be noted that the star himself stated on social media that he was prepared to honour his existing commitments.

The British star later revealed that he knew back in the summer that his NWA run was coming to an end, but a one-year-contract signed in January 2022 kept him tied down until 2023.

Aldis signed with NWA in 2017, winning the Worlds Heavyweight Championship from Tim Storm before the year was out. Aldis later lost the title to Cody Rhodes at All In, before regaining it a little over a month later. His subsequent title reign spanned 1,043 days.

Meanwhile, Mickie James is currently enjoying her ‘Last Rodeo’ with IMPACT Wrestling, having announced back in September that she will retire after her next defeat. On the most recent episode of IMPACT (November 10th) James defeated Chelsea Green to keep her career alive.
