Another Former World Champion Enters The 2023 WWE Royal Rumble

WWE Championship

With the 2023 WWE Royal Rumble only two weeks away the card for the event is beginning to take shape.

It has already been announced that Roman Reigns will defend his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against Kevin Owens, and Bray Wyatt will meet LA Knight in the first-ever Pitch Black Match. The show will of course also feature both the men’s and women’s Royal Rumble Matches.

While there are sure to be some surprises come the big night, the lists of competitors across both matches is starting to fill up.

Rey Mysterio Enters 2023 WWE Royal Rumble

On the January 13th episode of Friday Night SmackDown, three more Superstars declared themselves for the matches. Impressively all three stars are either current or former champions.

On the women’s side, former NXT Women’s Champion Raquel Rodriguez put her name into the hat. This led to a confrontation involving Liv Morgan and later a match between the pair which Rodriguez won.

The show was a big night for Gunther as he retained his Intercontinental Championship with victory over Braun Strowman. The giant Austrian eventually scored the win with a Powerbomb after a typically hard-hitting contest. Fresh off the back of the win he declared himself for the Rumble.

The 2023 Royal Rumble will also feature Rey Mysterio who famously won the match from number two in 2006. From there he went on to capture the World Championship at WrestleMania.

On SmackDown Mysterio discussed his on-going feud with son Dominik before explaining that entering the Rumble would get him back on track. The Lucha Libre legend was then confronted by Karrion Kross as tensions between the two men continue to increase. Kross ending the segment standing tall after laying out his rival.
