2022 Women’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Winners Revealed

Women's Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Kay Lee Ray Io Shirai Wendy Choo Dakota Kai

After weeks of competition, one team has emerged victorious in the 2022 Women’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic!

The main event of NXT 2.0 saw the underdog team of Dakota Kai and Wendy Choo take on former NXT & NXT UK Women’s Champions Io Shirai and Kay Lee Ray in the finals of the Women’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. Io Shirai and Kay Lee Ray advanced last week after defeating Kacy Catanzaro and Kayden Carter, while Wendy Choo and Dakota Kai scored a surprise upset over the favorite team of Raquel Gonzalez and Cora Jade.

Earlier in the night, Dakota Kai and Wendy Choo were involved in a backstage promo segment where Kai recalled winning the Dusty Cup last year alongside her former friend Raquel Gonzalez while Wendy Choo described the downfall of her partner’s former friendship. However, Choo seemed confident that Kai would go on to win the Dusty Cup once again with her new best friend.

Toxic Attraction sat ringside for the bout, scouting their competition. Wendy Choo used her sleepy gimmick to full effect in the match, and at one point used her pillow to shield her partner from a 619.

Despite the best efforts of Wendy Choo and Dakota Kai, it was Io Shirai and Kay Lee Ray who were victorious in the end when Shirai pinned Choo after a moonsault.

After the match, NXT Women’s Champion Mandy Rose got on the microphone and made it clear that the Dusty Cup winners had no chance at beating her stablemates for the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championships.

Kay Lee Ray responded by saying that the only thing they had in mind was to destroy Toxic Attraction by going after their leader and taking what’s most important to her. Instead of cashing in their opportunity to go after the Women’s Tag Team Championship, she and her partner would join Rose and Cora Jade in the NXT Women’s Championship match, making it a fatal four way.

The Toxic Attraction members were outraged at the suggestion and began to brawl with the new Dusty Cup winners, and Cora Jade also came out to join the melee.

Elsewhere on NXT 2.0, tensions continued to build between Indi Hartwell and her friend Persia Pirotta as they compared which of their men was superior. However, Pirotta’s boyfriend Duke Hudson was put into a match with Gunther by Lumis and the Imperium leader was able to defeat the Australian.

NXT 2.0 also saw Robert Roode return to singles action in NXT for the first time in over four years, taking on former NXT Champion Bron Breakker. Breakker was able to build momentum for his Stand & Deliver match against Dolph Ziggler by defeating Roode in their bout.
