William Regal commenced active duties with WWE last week after a nine-month stint in rival organisation AEW.
Regal was written off AEW television after an assault from MJF on the 30th of November edition of Dynamite and then agreed to terms with WWE in December. Details on Regal’s role in the organisation have now been revealed.
William Regal’s New WWE Job Title Revealed
A report from PWInsider has confirmed that William Regal’s new job title will be “Vice President, Global Talent Development.”
This title is very much in line with his previous job title before his release in January, which was “Director of Talent Development and Head of Global Recruiting.” He started this role in 2014, alongside his on-screen work as NXT’s General Manager.
After his release from WWE, William Regal signed with All Elite Wrestling, debuting on-screen at Revolution 2022. He went on to form the Blackpool Combat Club alongside Jon Moxley and Bryan Danielson. The group soon added Wheeler Yuta and Claudio Castagnoli to its ranks and remains a staple of AEW television despite Regal’s exit in December.
AEW founder Tony Khan revealed on the ROH Final Battle media call his reasoning for allowing Regal to return to WWE after only nine months of working in AEW as on-screen talent.
“Basically, he’s got a son who works at another wrestling promotion and he really wanted us at the end of the year when we had the option to renew the contract, he was asking that we would not. Nothing bad, we were having a great time working together but that this was an opportunity for him to go back and work in his golden years of his career with his son.”
Regal’s son Bailey, who goes under the name “Charlie Dempsey,” is frequently featured on the NXT brand. The new role suggests Regal will be responsible for developing talent like Dempsey to prepare them for a main roster debut.
