Despite no longer being with WWE, William Regal has given his thoughts on the current state of NXT UK.
William Regal played an integral part in the original tournament to crown the first-ever NXT UK Championship. Of course, many of the NXT UK talents then transitioned to NXT, where they continued interacting with Regal.
While Regal’s influence on wrestlers such as Pete Dunne, Tyler Bate, Jordan Delvin, and others could be felt whenever they entered the squared circle, a lot of them were able to forge their own paths. Over the years, the brand has undergone many changes and seen personnel like Regal let go by WWE.
During the latest episode of the “Gentleman Villain” podcast, Regal spoke about the impact COVID-19 had on the brand and people’s complaints about it.
“I’m gonna have to say this, everything that NXT UK became. People will knock NXT UK, but NXT UK became a safe [place] with the best trainers, a great training facility. And COVID knocked it about a bit. But anybody who works there, you’re gonna have the usual frustrations, because egos and whatever. But they all got paid a weekly wage, they’ve all got the best trainers, they’re all better for being there.
They will all tell you that they’re all far better for being there. And we created some magic there. And some of those specials with it. I had the offer to do that and I always imagined that.”
NXT UK is currently going through a number of significant changes with now-former Champion, Ilja Dragunov, forced to relinquish the NXT UK Championship due to injury. It was reported that Tyler Bate became the new champion after winning a tournament to determine a new champion.
