William Regal Responds To Recent Reports About His Status

By Sondra Ruth. Published 13th December 2022.
William Regal

After helping MJF win the AEW World Championship at Full Gear, William Regal was brutally attacked from behind by the new champion on the November 30th episode of AEW Dynamite. He was removed from the arena on a stretcher, indicating that he was being written off AEW television.

Speculation immediately began mounting, with many people believing he would be returning to WWE under Triple H‘s new regime after being released from the sports entertainment giant back in January while it was still under the control of Vince McMahon. In an interview, EC3 claimed that Regal “immediately regretted” his decision to become All Elite and that his advice wasn’t being heeded backstage, but sources within AEW quickly shot down those claims as false.

Last week, Tony Khan confirmed that MJF‘s attack on William Regal would indeed be his last live appearance with All Elite Wrestling, though he did appear in a pre-taped segment on December 7th in an attempt to explain his exit. Khan explained that Regal requested to be able to return to WWE in order to work with his son, who wrestles under the name Charlie Dempsey on WWE NXT. He will not be allowed to appear in an on-screen role.

PWInsider reported today that William Regal has agreed to terms on his new role in WWE and will serve in a Vice President capacity. He is reported to be starting his new position the first week of January.

William Regal – “A Still Tongue Keeps A Wise Head”

Taking to social media in a series of tweets, William Regal responded to the recent discussion about him, making it clear that nothing should be taken as fact unless it comes directly from him. He warns against believing everything that’s said about him, seemingly taking a shot at both wrestling media and those who would speculate on his motivations.

“There’s seems to be a lot of news about me getting spread around. There’s enough people who really know me (although they are few as trust is a big issue with me) who know the truth. Unless you hear it from me directly it is at best second hand information…..

….unless you hear it directly from ME it is either wrong or someone’s interpretation of what is really going on. And that means EVERYTHING that is being said about me from every “source”. That goes for ANYONE SAYING they have spoken or know me. A still tongue keeps a wise head!”
