William Regal has had one of the most newsworthy years of his entire career and has been making headlines recently with uncertainty surrounding his immediate future with AEW.
Although he was thought to be one of the most important backstage figures in all of WWE, William Regal was shockingly released by the company in January 2022. A few months later, he made his debut at AEW Revolution and went on to form the Blackpool Combat Club with Bryan Danielson and Jon Moxley.
At last month’s AEW Full Gear, Regal betrayed Moxley and helped MJF defeat him for the AEW World Championship.
The former NXT General Manager has been a key figure in AEW since his arrival and has recently revealed which member of the AEW roster he would loved to have faced if he was able to wrestle today.
William Regal Would Have Loved To Wrestle Orange Cassidy
On a recent edition of his ‘Gentleman Villain’ podcast, William Regal was speaking about Rey Mysterio and how he knew he wanted to work with him from the moment he first saw him wrestle.
Regal then went on to name AEW’s Orange Cassidy as a name he would love to have worked with if he was still wrestling today:
“As soon as I saw Rey Mysterio I was saying please put me on with him. No different than now, although not wrestling if I see Orange Cassidy please put me on with him. Because I’ll make him into a somebody better than [anyone], and if this offends people, great. That’s their problem.”
He continued:
“I could make him into as good of a guy as anyone knowing the skill set that I know. And I’d be happy to wrestle him. Right. [We are talking about] Orange Cassidy but Rey Mysterio was the same. Soon as I saw him, I was like, perfect for me. Soon as I saw Evan Bourne or Matt Sydal, perfect for me. Please put me on with him.”
Speculation continues to surround William Regal’s future with AEW and recent reports have suggested that he is expected to return to WWE in the near future with his AEW contract believed to expire as soon as this month.
