Current AEW star and former WWE scout William Regal says he once put his job on the line so the company would take a chance on hiring Sasha Banks.
William Regal was a key player behind the scenes when NXT was founded by Triple H in 2012. Latterly, the English star was the brand’s on-screen General Manager but in his backstage role, he helped hire and mould the future stars of WWE.
One of those stars happens to be former Raw, SmackDown, and NXT Women’s Champion Sasha Banks. Speaking to Renee Paquette on The Sessions as part of a wider discussion about the future of the former Cesaro, Regal mentioned that he told WWE to fire him if The Boss’ hiring didn’t pan out as he was so sure she’d be a success:
“I put my job on the line once for Sasha Banks, she was someone who I went with because I knew her – my first thing on the job was hire this lady. I said If she doesn’t work out then you can fire me.”
Sasha Banks has of course been in the headlines since Monday night when she and Naomi, according to a WWE statement, handed their WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship belts to Head Of Talent Relations John Laurinaitis and walked out of the show.
