According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, William Regal is officially “gone” from AEW following his appearance on the November 30 edition of Dynamite.
William Regal Has Left AEW.
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer would comment on William Regal’s AEW status following his seeming write off during the latest episode of Dynamite.
“Regal’s gone. It’s not like maybe he’s gone. I believe that’s his farewell.”
Meltzer would continue, revealing that he has heard mixed reports as to why the veteran has departed AEW with some in the locker room believing a short term deal was signed and others believing he was given an ‘out’ by AEW owner Tony Khan.
“I’ve had so many different people tell me so many different stories. The primary source story was that his contract was short-term. The WWE side says that he had an out
The closest thing to what I would say is official would be he signed a short-term deal. Others say he had an out or Tony gave him an out. Whatever it was, I certainly know that when he signed it was a 3-year deal supposedly and nine months now it’s over. It sounds weird.”
Meltzer would also confirm that there are currently plans for Regal’s departure to be discussed in some manner on screen with the story between MJF and The Blackpool Combat Club/ Jon Moxley & Bryan Danielson to continue in some capacity.
“I believe there’s going to be something on Wednesday’s show where there will be something addressing certain things. That story is supposed to keep going in some way. But he is going back to WWE.”
Regal would sign for AEW in March of 2022 following his shock WWE release in January of the same year. The former King of the Ring would go on to be a key part of AEW television during his nine-months with the company forming Blackpool Combat Club with Jon Moxley, Bryan Danielson. Wheeler Yuta and Claudio Castagnoli before turning on the group at AEW Full Gear 2022.
