As a professional wrestler and behind the scenes executive, William Regal spent over 20 years in World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) before exiting the company.
While in WWE, William Regal met and worked with several different acts, and recently, the former Steve Regal revealed when he first met “The Boss” Sasha Banks.
William Regal Saw Something Special In Sasha Banks That Nobody Originally Did
Speaking on his “Gentleman Villain” podcast, William Regal reminisced about when he met Sasha Banks.
“When I first met her, she was either 18 or 19 and it was in Boston. I was in catering and she was an extra. She asked to come and sit with me and ask questions more than once. I’d help anybody, so I just answered whatever questions she had, and whenever I saw her, same thing.”
In 2012, “The Boss” would begin her time in WWE, later becoming the NXT Women’s Champion at the gold and black’s TakeOver: Rival Premium Live Event in 2015. Later that year, she would make her main roster debut as a member of Team B.A.D., and after that, the rest is history: Five-time WWE Raw Women’s Champion, one-time WWE Smackdown Women’s Champion and three-time WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion.
Before walking out of World Wrestling Entertainment earlier this year, Sasha Banks had a ton of success in WWE, but it didn’t come easy for the star who is now in popular demand.
“Long story short, there came a time when she had a tryout and there were certain people in certain positions who didn’t see anything in her, “Regal added. “I just knew that there was something special, but I knew it was going to take a few years…I actually said ‘If this doesn’t work out, then you can take my job away from me.’ …I just knew she’d be an incredible, good, talented professional and it worked out, I think.”
