William Regal has revealed that the upcoming launch of NXT Europe has been on the cards for several years.
On August 18th after weeks of speculation it was confirmed that NXT UK is set to be scrapped. Rumours about the future of the brand had been swirling for a number of weeks following the news that two tapings had been cancelled.
The chatter only intensified as a number of NXT UK stars appeared on the Heatwave edition of NXT 2.0.
With NXT UK coming to an end, it was announced that a new brand called NXT Europe will take it’s place sometime in 2023. In the meantime, the demise of NXT UK has led to the releases of a number of stars. You can find the full list here.
Speaking on his podcast Gentleman Villain, William Regal, who had been an integral part of the creation of NXT UK, revealed that conversations about expanding had been going on for several years.
“I suppose I can say this. I also know for the last several years, NXT Europe was in process. I’m gonna leave it there. But things changed in the last year and different things. But now, things are changing again, and things are back on track. So I’m not going to say any more on that.
But for any of these people who don’t think that, they seem to think that they know what is going on. They only know what they know, they don’t know, but I know, and they don’t. And they know what they’re getting told, and I know different. And I don’t know anything anymore. Because I don’t work there and I don’t ask. But I know that it was the expansion of NXT was going to happen. I’ve been working, I was personally working on that for the last seven, eight years until January.”
NXT UK will hold it’s final show on September 4th in conjunction with NXT 2.0 titled Words Collide. While two huge unification matches have already been announced for the show.
United Kingdom Champion Tyler Bate is set to take on NXT Champion Bron Breakker while NXT Women’s Champion Mandy Rose will take on Blair Davenport and NXT UK Women’s Champion Meiko Satomura.
