William Regal only signed with All Elite Wrestling in March 2022, but his time with the company is now officially over.
Regal had been released by WWE just two months earlier, but headed to AEW at the behest of Bryan Danielson. On television, Regal joined forces with the American Dragon and Jon Moxley to form the Blackpool Combat Club, and the trio later recruited Wheeler Yuta and Claudio Castagnoli.
However, at Full Gear, Regal turned his back on Moxley helping his rival MJF win the AEW World Championship. Not this union was built to last with MJF taking out the British veteran just two weeks later. It quickly became apparent that the storyline was a way of writing Regal off television after he privately expressed his desire to return to WWE.
AEW boss Tony Khan later confirmed that Regal had the company not to take up the option on his contract so that he could return to WWE to work with his son. Meanwhile it has been reported that Regal will start work with WWE in January 2023, although he wont be able to appear on-screen.
William Regal Addresses AEW Exit
Posting on social media William Regal has now confirmed that he has left AEW. Across two messages, the former Intercontinental Champion thanked Tony Khan and those he had worked with during his relatively short tenure.
“Yesterday was my last official day with @AEW I’d like to thank @TonyKhan Megha and all the hard working crew. Contrary to people who’ve never spoken to me or have their information from people who don’t know me or are trying to make themselves noticed, I had a lovely time working there and had a great time. Lots of talented Wrestlers, and lovely people to work for. To my fellow BCC members, it was a special, albeit brief few months but it cemented our already strong friendship. To everyone there, thank you for welcoming me. Best wishes.”

It appears that the changes are going to keep coming for WWE following the signing of Mexican star Dragon Lee. It has been reported that WWE are looking to add a number of “high quality” talents to their roster in early 2023.
