The legendary William Regal and high-flying star Will Ospreay may have used very different in-ring styles, but that didn’t stop the young up-and-comer from reaching out to Regal for some invaluable advice.
During his time in Tony Khan’s promotion, it was reported that Regal’s wealth of knowledge and insight was not taken advantage of by the talent. However, during an interview with the Distraction Pieces Podcast Regal revealed that he gave a few pointers to the NJPW star.
During his appearance on the podcast, Regal disclosed the words of wisdom he shared with fellow Englishman Will Ospreay and how he took it on board.
“I said there’s only one thing. I said you did that incredible thing there, but you did that facing away from the cameras. A few weeks later, everything he did, he did towards the cameras.”
Regal added that he was surprised that someone with the talent of Ospreay came to him for his expertise.
“What are you asking me for? As good as you are, why do you need to ask me?”
The two Brits shared some time in AEW during the lead-up to the inter-promotional pay-per-view, Forbidden Door. During this period Ospreay was featured heavily on AEW programming. Along with Aussie Open as United Empire, they fought in the AEW World Trios Championship Tournament. The trio defeated Death Triangle in the first round but failed to progress to the final after suffering defeat to the Elite.
At Forbidden Door Ospreay successfully defended the IWGP United States Championship against Orange Cassidy. At the same event, Regal accompanied Jon Moxley to the ring for his Interim World Championship match against the Ace of NJPW, Hiroshi Tanahashi.
William Regal Recently Returned To WWE
Regal had a brief but eventful time in AEW. On March 2022, he made his surprise debut for the promotion at Revolution. Alongside Bryan Danielson and Moxley, he helped create the Blackpool Combat Club. He led Moxley to his second World Championship before assisting MJF to capture his first title and then leaving the promotion.
Regal officially returned to WWE in January 2023 as Vice President of Global Talent Development.
