Will Ospreay opened up about being influenced by the Assassin’s Creed franchise.
It’s no secret that Will Ospreay is a fan of the franchise, modeling his entrance gear after it and taking on the nickname the Aerial Assassin. Speaking in a recent interview with IGN, he opened up about why Assassin’s Creed speaks to him.
“I love [the phrase] ‘work in the dark to serve the light’,” explains Ospreay. “It spoke volumes [to me] for some strange reason. It just felt like a superhero [mantra I wanted to adopt] weirdly, and I love being the good guy. I love it.”
Continuing, Will Ospreay explained that modeling his entrance and persona after the franchise opened up creative pathways for him, and he credits that inspiration for his success today.
“It opened up gateways in my brain with wrestling. It made me think so much deeper about the entrance [and] the way I presented and carried myself on camera. Without Assassin’s Creed, I don’t think I would be as far in my wrestling career as I would be right now.”
Will Ospreay Could Have Been Involved Had Assassin’s Creed II Not Been Scrapped
When it comes to the movie franchise modeled after the video games, Will Ospreay revealed that not only were promo photos of him requested to help advertise the film’s Japanese release, but he was also told that he might be able to do some stunt work if a sequel to the film were ever made. Plans were in the works for Assassin’s Creed II, but those plans were scrapped when Disney bought out Fox.
“I was in New Japan when the Assassin’s Creed film came out. They wanted to use some of my photos from New Japan to help advertise the movie coming over! They said if there was going to be an Assassin’s Creed 2, I might be able to do some stunt work in it and I got excited. Nothing ever came of it but I’d love to be a part of Assassin’s Creed.
According to Ospreay, he’s been in contact with Ubisoft and hopes to be involved in the franchise in some form.
“After getting the go ahead from Ubisoft to have their theme playing for my last Tokyo Dome match, they said that there are options for me to explore with Assassin’s Creed now. So if there ever was a movie, or a game, or even a downloadable Aerial Assassin [character], I’m completely open for it. I love the Assassin’s Creed franchise and honestly, it would be an honour.”
In another recent interview, Will Ospreay outlined the three goals he has after signing with AEW.
