Will Ospreay Slams “Politics” For Ruining Potential Forbidden Door Match

Will Ospreay

Will Ospreay has hit out at wrestling politics for ruining his planned showdown with a former WWE star at Forbidden Door.

AEW x NJPW: Forbidden saw IWGP United States Champion Will Ospreay defend his title against Orange Cassidy in a 17-minute slugfest. Despite Tony Khan claiming the show was a massive success, some talents were left off the card due to political reasons.

One star who wasn’t allowed to compete at the show was Andrade El Idolo. Andrade has worked for both CMLL and AAA, but he wasn’t allowed to compete at Forbidden Door because New Japan had a working relationship with AAA, which has historically been at odds with CMLL.

It has previously been reported that El Idolo was originally scheduled to meet Ospreay at Forbidden Door, before wrestling politics got in the way.

El Idolo and Dragon Lee voiced their displeasure at being caught in the middle of AAA and CMLL’s feud. This ultimately led to a heated Twitter exchange between El Idolo and Konnan over money.

Ospreay spoke about the ongoing tensions between both promotions during his interview on “Wrestle Inn.”

“If I can just talk with the boss from AAA and CMLL –we just all get in the room together, alright? We’ll have a couple tequilas, we’ll enjoy ourselves, you know what I mean? We can sort all this sh*t out, just have a sit-down. Let’s just talk; there doesn’t need to be any of this politics anymore. There’s no reason why there should be politics in pro wrestling anymore. I can’t be bothered with it.”

Ospreay retained his IWGP Championship against Cassidy at the super-show. Elsewhere in the interview, the British star was in typically feisty mood, claiming that others stars had been “too fragile” to show up at the event.
