Will Ospreay has addressed the comments made by Triple H that were perceived to be about him, the AEW star’s response and a comedy spot where he hit a lookalike with a Pedigree.
At Full Gear 2023 it was confirmed that Ospreay had signed with AEW and would be joining the roster full-time once he had finished things up with New Japan. Returning at Revolution, Ospreay has been a part of the promotion for over a year, won the International Championship twice and is one of the top stars in All Elite Wrestling.
Shortly before WrestleMania 40, Triple H made an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show. During the interview, the WWE Chief Content Officer stated that if aspiring wrestlers are not happy with the schedule, referred to as “The grind”, then he doesn’t want them in the company, which many perceived to be a shot at the British stat.
On a later episode of Dynamite, Ospreay responded by saying, “The guy that said it is only in the position he is in because he is grinding on the boss’ daughter” and that he had no idea what Ospreay had fought for.
While speaking with Chris Van Vliet, Ospreay stated that while his name wasn’t said he was told that it was about him. However, Ospreay also added that he wasn’t hurt by the comments, adding that he wanted to get a return shot in to end the exchange:
“He didn’t say my name. He was [talking about me]. I’ve got people that I won’t throw under the bus saying, Yeah, it was about me. I’m not taking it personally like, Oh, that hurt my feelings. It’s just kind of like, all right, you take a jab at me, I’ll take one back. There’s nothing horrible about it. I don’t hate the guy. I’ve never met him. How can I hate someone that I’ve never even met?
[Have you even talked to him?] No, I’ve never spoken to him, I got an agency who talks to everyone. I’ve told everybody about my situation and why I want to remain in the UK, which is why that kind of hurt me a little bit, but not to the point where it keeps me up at night. I was like, Okay, you took a jab at me, I’ll take one back, and then that’s it. We’re done.”
Previously asked about the comments, Will Ospreay stated that fans took it “way too personally.”
Why Will Ospreay Hit A Pedigree On “Triple H”
During an appearance for Pro Wrestling: Eve, the former International Champion hit the ring and delivered a Pedigree onto a wrestler dressed as Triple H. When asked why he did it, Ospreay stated because it was hilarious:
“I was doing some stuff for Pro Wrestling: Eve, and they do this thing called the Multiverse Rumble, and everybody dresses up as characters, and somebody dresses up as Triple H. I walked in here and I looked, I went I’ve got to do it now, haven’t I? [Why’d you have to do it?] Because it’s funny and if anyone doesn’t think it’s funny, then I can’t tell you what your humour is, but my humour is, this is hilarious. I’m going to do it.”
