Will Ospreay Doesn’t Think He Is On The Level Of WWE Hall Of Famer

Will Ospreay

Will Ospreay has admitted he doesn’t believe he’s anywhere near the level of one WWE Hall of Famer.

Dave Meltzer has awarded Will Ospreay more five-star ratings than any other wrestler in the history of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter with 37 of his bouts receiving the accolade so far. The closest to Ospreay is fellow AEW star Kazuchika Okada, who has 27 matches with five stars or more.

During an appearance on the latest edition of Hey! (EW), Ospreay joked that he doesn’t know why Dave Meltzer loves him so much.

“I don’t know what it is, I think I’m just a charming man.”

When asked if he believes he’s as good as Meltzer thinks he is, Ospreay said no, explaining that he doesn’t see himself anywhere near the level of Kurt Angle, who has no five-star matches according to the journalist.

“No, because when you talk about guys like Kurt Angle, and he hasn’t got one five-star match, I’m nowhere near the level of what Kurt Angle is. But, I do feel like I’ve got my own special, unique stuff that Kurt Angle could never do I could do, but stuff that I can never do, Kurt Angle could do.”

On the ratings themselves, The Assassin noted it’s just Meltzer’s opinion.

“I think it’s just his opinion, you know what I mean? Opinions are like a***holes, everyone’s got one”

When it comes to Meltzer’s skills as a critic, Ospreaty would rate him four stars.

Kurt Angle Addressed Lack Of Five-Star Ratings

Back in 2023, Kurt Angle admitted he’s “surprised” Dave Meltzer has never awarded him a five-star rating. The Olympic gold medallist says he respects Meltzer’s opinion, but thinks it’s unfortunate he was never given the accolade.

During the same interview, Will Ospreay opened up about his battles with dyslexia, ADHD and autism.
