NJPW star Will Ospreay has addressed the comparisons that have been made with him and the late WWE Hall of Famer Eddie Guerrero.

It all started with Dave Meltzer, responding to the question on Twitter “Who’s the modern day Eddie Guerrero?“. Meltzer replied simply with “Ospreay“.

Essex born Ospreay responded in a Tweet, not exactly namedropping Guerrero exactly, but asking wrestling fans to stop comparing two “different generations of artist” that offer two totally different “qualities of art.”

Wonder how many compare Picasso to Banksy. 2 different generations of artist that offer 2 different qualities of art. It’s just down to whatever you like. Quit comparing, I ain’t ever gonna fill shoes or live up to anyone’s expectations but my own.

Meltzer started a heated debate online, with the wrestling fanbase torn between whether the comparison is correct or not.

Responses such as ‘But I don’t think they’ll EVER be another Eddie Guerrero.“, “Ospreay lacks the natural charisma, showmanship, & personality of Eddie and I say that as a huge fan of Will.” and “I think I almost agree. Osprey is phenomenal.” highlight the divide in opinion.

Ospreay lost to Kazuchika Okada at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 15 earlier this month, now Will and ‘The United Empire’ look ahead to 2021 to try and rebuild after a rocky start.
