Will Ospreay Breaks TNA Record

The main event match featuring Will Ospreay and Josh Alexander achieved an unprecedented feat, earning a remarkable rating of five and a half stars from Dave Meltzer.

This exceptional rating not only signifies the match’s outstanding quality but also marks a new milestone as the highest-ever rated match in TNA‘s illustrious history, as evaluated by Meltzer.

The near 24-minute clash between Ospreay and Alexander captivated audiences and critics alike, showcasing a level of athleticism, artistry, and storytelling that garnered universal acclaim. Meltzer’s resounding appraisal of the match, in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, solidifies its place as a seminal moment in TNA’s legacy, eclipsing the previous record held by another of Ospreay’s bouts, that took place at the October 21st 2023 event Bound For Glory when Ospreay faced off against Mike Bailey receiving five and a quarter stars.

In the Observer Meltzer wrote:

The Will Ospreay vs. Josh Alexander match taped on 1/14 that aired on 1/18 to me was the best match easily so far this year. Will is well and I get that, and the idea he did that the day after the Okada match is unreal. It didn’t have the story behind it as the Okada match, and they tried to do a 30:00 match in 23:49 because they felt rushed at the end but athletically this was just incredible. I’d go *****½ and it’s the best match in what looks like it may be the best year ever when it comes to great matches.
