Will Ospreay Apologises, Confirms Change In AEW Going Forward

Will Ospreay at AEW Dynasty

Will Ospreay was victorious at AEW Dynasty but has admitted that he is not entirely pleased with the outcome.

Competing against Bryan Danielson at the inaugural Dynasty pay-per-view, many believe that this could be the match of the year when all is said and done in 2024. With high-impact moves throughout and Danielson hitting the Busaiku Knee on Ospreay in midair, the ending of the match saw Ospreay hit the Storm Driver 91 onto The American Dragon and spiked him on his head. As the referee called for a medic, Ospreay hit the Hidden Blade to win the match.

As soon as the match was over, medics rushed to the ring to check on Danielson. Having looked back on the footage, Ospreay stated that it doesn’t feel right to use one of his signature moves going forward.

Appearing at the press conference after AEW Dynasty, Ospreay stated that although he has performed the Storm Driver 91 before and there have been no issues, he does not want to use it in the foreseeable future and will retire it. Additionally, the British star offered an apology to all involved:

“I’m super glad that everybody enjoyed the match. A little bit of a dampener on how it’s all kind of [finished], the dust has settled now. I’ve reviewed the footage myself. Seeing that Bryan got hurt on the Storm Driver, and I didn’t see the referee call for the doctor. So I want to apologise for that. Obviously like within the confines of wrestling, I do go like I said in the ring. It’s your life as it is mine until you kind of see it staring at you in the face of what I did, and I honestly feel awful about this.

So even though like 90% of the time that move has been absolutely fine, seeing the damage that it’s kind of done, I’m going to retire using the Storm Driver 91. I don’t think it’s right for me to continue using it after seeing what it did to Bryan, someone that I’ve got huge amounts of respect for, this was kind of my dream match. This is something I’ve wanted since I was a kid bruv. So to see the outcome, although I’m happy when everyone enjoyed the match, I’m kind of disappointed in myself. So once again, I apologise to Bryan, apologise to AEW medics, I apologise to Tony.”

It should be noted that as reported by Fightful Select, the Danielson injury spot was planned and The American Dragon did not suffer any legitimate injuries at the pay-per-view.

What’s Next For Will Ospreay?

Stringing together victories on Dynamite and on pay-per-view, The Ariel Assassin is quickly rising up the rankings and is likely to be in line for a World Championship shot very soon. In an interview ahead of Dynasty, Will Ospreay revealed what goals he has after the Bryan Danielson match.

Also at the press conference, Will Ospreay discussed the promo directed at Triple H.
