In 2022, Will Ospreay racked up an impressive eight matches that were rated five stars or higher by Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
But despite having seemingly cracked Meltzer’s code, there was one highly rated contest that the Brit did not enjoy – at least, not while he was in the ring.
On the August 24th edition of AEW Dynamite, Ospreay’s United Empire defeated Death Triangle in the first round of the AEW Trios World Title Tournament. As expected the action was fast and furious for the entirety with United Empire scoring the win after 25 minutes of chaos. Despite Meltzer describing the match was “among the greatest matches in the history of Dynamite” one of the main protagonists has claimed that he didn’t actually enjoy it.
Will Ospreay Recalls Not Enjoying Acclaimed Dynamite Match
Speaking exclusively to Inside The Ropes’ Liam Wyatt, Will Ospreay said:
“It’s actually mad, right, because I did not enjoy the five star match that we had with Death Triangle. I didn’t enjoy it, because I felt like there was no flow, but then when you watch it back- because I’m panicking while I’m in there, you don’t realise, but I’m actually going ‘what the fuck is up next?’. But actually, when I watched it back, I was in control, there wasn’t a place where people didn’t look like they knew what they were doing. It was just one of those things, I guess, where internally I’m like ‘what the fuck is going on?’ but externally, I’m calm, and no one else needs to know!”

Will Ospreay will be hoping to start the New Year with another critically acclaimed bout, as he wrestles AEW’s Kenny Omega at New Japan’s Wrestle Kingdom 17.
You can watch all of the action from Night One of Wrestle Kingdom 17 on January 4th with English commentary on New Japan’s streaming service, NJPW World.
